FCC Athletics – A Tradition of Excellence
In 1910, Fresno City College was founded as California’s first Community College. The school has a rich and long-standing tradition of excellence” in athletics, and during the history of the school’s Rams athletic programs, the athletes have marked no less than 53 Team California Championships, almost 115 Individual California Championships, and almost 360 Conference Championships. The following video is a bit older and shows how FCC’s Basketball Team wins the 2012 CCCAA title:
Within the twenty intercollegiate sports programs that the school’s athletes were participating in over the past year, 418 student-athletes were representing Fresno City College in CCCAA competitions. On an annual basis, the school is serving some 480 student-athletes, and the majority of these students are coming to the school from within California and the school’s Central Valley service area.
Fresno City College’s Athletic Department employes an enthusiastic group of over 80 staff (coaches, support staff, administrators) who are working hard to maintain the school’s “Tradition of Excellence” and go great lengths to serve FCC’s student-athletes as well as the entire Fresno community.
The year 2012 was important in the school’s athletics history as the Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup was awarded to the school’s Athletic Department, the most prestigious crown in college athletics achievement. The award is a great honor for institutions that maintain broad-based programs and achieve success in a great number of sports, both women’s and men’s.
Each year, FCC’s student-athletes complete their degrees to transfer to the 4-year academic level at a rate usually higher than the regular student body’s rate.

Without exaggeration, it can be stated that FCC has one of America’s richest histories and a “Tradition of Excellence”. At the start of 1948, the CCCAA began to keep records of a “History of Champions” and since then, FCC reached the 53-mark for Team State Championships, and there are just 5 CCCAA Colleges that surpassed that milestone. There is no college north of Los Angeles that holds more CCCAA Team State Championship titles than the FCC Rams.
Since 1948, individual State Championship titles were earned by no less than 114 student-athletes and the school’s Ram Athletic Teams have earned no less than 357 Conference Championships in that period.
Fresno City College is ranking sixth in California in total student-athletes body served annually (434 students), and the school has the third largest number (20) in California for total sports teams administered in the department.
